so after yesterdays revilation, i am now gonna share with you my top 2 fav artists of all time. i have had a love hate realtionship with art for most of my life. i cannot stand art for artists, conceptual art that was shoved on us at nscad when i was there. i dont get it , i also dont care at all about it. what i like about art is when it talks to people without an artist statement, something direct that easily states what it is and what it means, especially if it is a commentary about our culture and even better if its public art, you know where there are no stuffy galleries but out there on the streets. this is why i love Banksy. his work is spot on in every way in my opinion. iits bold social commentary in public spaces for everyone. i also love banksy because he is not named, he is annonomous, this adds to the message. i dont know if his plan was to avoid being charged for graffitti or whatever or if it was part of his plan but either way the fact that we dont know who it is that is doing this brilliant gurilla art gives his art a validity that no named artist can achieve. but again thats my humble opinion. My other favourite artist is Andy Goldsworthy. he speaks to my spirit and the spirit of nature, by manipulating nature, not introducing any other materials than what was there when he arrived, magical placements of rocks, ice wood and other things youd find in natural places. He is the woods banksy in a way lol. most of his work has been captured in photography, blending those two mediums as most of us will never be able to see an Andy piece up close. he is world renowned if you have never heard of him and love nature and beautiful things than you should check him out.
