so, yeah... -60 lbs officially this morning (just had my weigh in). Im starting to be able to fit in clothes I havent worn in 10 years...fortunately, a tailored blue blazer never goes out of style. so many of you have been so supportive, during this journey...friends near and far, and I want you to know how much I appreciate that. One of the things that I hear every so often is, ..oh, you guys lose weight so much faster...its not fair... and while we are all put together differently, and our bodies react to changes in routine in sometimes unpredictable ways, I must gently refute that idea: my workout schedule for the past week was: Friday- 2 mile swim 1:10:00 (thats over an hour of non stop swimming) Saturday- 10 mile mountain bike ride Monday- 1 mile swim 31:00, 60 minutes of weight training Tuesday- 10 miles mountain bike (difficult, technical course!) Wednesday- 1 mile swim 31:39 Thursday- 2 mile swim 1:08 the net result of last weeks efforts was -4.8 lbs...chipping away, chipping away Today, I will hit the gym for weight training (which I hate), and hopefully (if the weather holds out) a 12 mile mountain bike ride at Ft. Yargo... a place I havent tackled since I did a 3 hour endurance race there 6 years ago on the other side of the equation, my caloric intake is around 1500/day (net)...and frankly, I have blown past that a couple times this past week... I need to start tracking food more closely again... this past week was a fairly typical week, too... so, nothing easy about it... nevertheless, it is ENJOYABLE. What thrill it is to put on a dress shirt that was custom made for me 10 years ago and be able to button it all the way...little victories, every day... chipping away, chipping away for most of my life, I have been an active person. I was a runner before that really became an in thing to do... cycling in the late 80s and 90s...mountain biking in the 2000s... but I allowed an injury to derail me, and slowly, but surely over time, slipped deeper and deeper into sedentary malaise... for anyone who may read this and think Im going to get started... next week... I would say, you can do it... its not going to be quick or easy, but you will see progress if you stick to a plan... part of that plan is being accountable: whether that is with Weight watchers, a workout group, OA, or at the direction of a physician (as I do), we need to be able to look truthfully at what we are consuming, and what our activity level is...bottom line; scale dont lie you dont have to do crazy workouts, either... 20 minutes a day, three times a week will yield results along with a moderated diet... thank you all for giving me the encouragement to keep going... people ask me sometimes, how much more do you want to lose? its hard to say right now, but I o have a number in mind... but I ill know when I get there...and you all will be among the first to know God Bless you B~
