solar powered | charging station for cars | design | kjellgren kaminsky architecture | the increasing popularity of electric cars in sweden led the traffic department of gothenburg to commission local firm kjellgren kamisky architecture to posit a solution for sustainable personal transportation. the result is a solar-powered charging station for electric cars, bikes and scooters that additionally offers weather protection, waiting rooms, a bike repair shop, outdoor gym, cafe and informational kiosks-- all wifi connected. the angled wooden truss construction was designed for three plots in angered, rosenlund and högsbo and while the project is still in a conceptual phase, the capabilities of energy-providing, carbon footprint-minimizing architecture is important for the discourse of the ever-changing and increasingly impactful urban landscape. the structure offers drivers multiple resources and the ability to multitask whilst charging their vehicles. locally sourced wood completes the scalable sustainable urban vision.
