thegoodoil.org/?p=7446 It seems there is a bit more to our tip-off about Ministerial offices being told to “Sack more staff” yesterday. As we said, we were a little concerned about the tip-off being third hand, but overnight we received this from a different, second-hand source: Hi GO, Your article about Ministerial staff being sacked is spot on. I can confirm that my cos [ed: Chief of Staff] has been told that all Ministerial offices have to find one tog [ed: Term of Government employee] to sack. It seems the Premier’s office got their pay rises based on the commitment to reduce every one else’s numbers, just like the Premier said in hansadr [sic]. I guess I should polish my cv again (name and position withheld) Oh dear, the Premier did beat his chest about the reduced numbers of ToG’s in his justification of the pay rises – here’s the full piece of his Parliamentary contribution on the subject: Mr BARNETT: I accept the criticism about salaries and employment within the term of government and within ministerial offices. I remind the house that under this government there are 30 fewer ministerial staff than there were under Labor. Under this government, there are 65 fewer term-of-government or political appointees than there were under Labor. We got rid of all of Labor’s structure—its special little local community group and media groups—and basically we have a limited number of media staff. Yes, when we dramatically reduce the number of political appointments and the overall size of ministerial offices, we will have some key people who get paid more, but overall there are major savings in ministerial offices’ expenditure under this government compared with Labor. It is starting to look very much like our tip-off was correct – and the extraordinary pay rises given to the Premier’s staff are going to lead to an even further reduced political capacity and serious morale problem in Ministerial offices. Nails in coffins? For sure!
