vimeo/111341580 Thoughts for the Holidays: When I was little we used to dig holes in the dirt trying to dig to China where, according to cartoons, things were exotic but basically the same except upside down. Half a century later that sounds childish as we can touch a button to instantly and factually see any part of the globe. But are we any smarter or better today? Ive seen so many videos of cops maliciously beating people of color, black faces and families ravaged by a now global disease, admissions of the most horrendous torture on the part of our government , furious and angry protests that instead of inciting change will most likely be just ignored....This video sent to me by a young US photographer feels as though I climbed through that dirt hole in my childhood backyard to remind me that, despite the hatred-mongering that is so pervasive today, humans, whatever our exotic skin colors and beliefs, are so much more alike than different, and it is that sweet sameness that must be savored, cherished, appreciated, if life is to be worth living for any of us.
