when i visited the buxa tiger reserve first time,i always wondered how such a pristine,dense,magnificent jungle is not a hit with wildlife enthusiasts of the country,but with a few days stay it became clear to me,why this vast tract is termed as a degraded forest by locals,forest groundstaffs!unpopular with tourists for low score on sighting,buxa is suffering from many problems,with hectres of natural ecosystem making way for timber plantation,illegal log felling,cattle grazing, taking its toll.none of the locals can remember when did they last came across any sign of the royal stripes.volunteers of census also admits that they have never came across any such signs,yet the propaganda is btr houses double digit number of tigers.it is unfortunate that the ppl who lost their jobs and prosperity for the sake of the jungle to be declared a tiger reserve,are in a state that there is widespread belief there is no tiger left in btr! economictimes.indiatimes/environment/flora-fauna/no-saviour-for-buxa-tiger-reserve/articleshow/20723261.cms
