when israel talks about establishing facts on the ground, the model is occupied amerika, where colonialist history and on going occupation are hidden behind years of development and displacement. we take the map of the u.s and its borders for granted. as if they were always there, as if manifest destiny was fact and not a horrible myth, a terrible narrative to justify genocide and conquest. israel is not the exception to the rule. it is the rule upon which all u.s. foreign policy is based, situated at the nexus of 3 continents, strategically located on the mediterranean sea, dividing the levant that spreads from morocco to iran, a huge territory of linguistic and ethnic continuity. also, in declaring solidarity, we must make sure all our struggles are one-- not separate, not privileging one over the other, in the divide and conquer intricacies devised to keep us apart and fighting among ourselves.
