If you’re brave enough to attempt this up-hill walk in the middle of summer, make sure you have enough water with you because once you arrive at the tiny, little monastery of the Virgin of Tsambika, 340m up the hill you will find that there are no kiosks or canteens to provide ice cold refreshments. This little monastery is very popular with local women who are battling to bear children. Climbing the more than 300 steps to the hilltop to pay homage to the Holy Mother and praying that she be blessed with a child often yields the desired result, according to the hundreds of infertile women who owe their motherhood to the Blessed Virgin.
