Daniel, 13, is currently an 8th grader at St. Gregory Hovsepian School in Pasadena. His project titled “A Novel Method of Improving Home Solar Panel Output: A Fundamental Concept with Profound Implications” was selected from more than 6,000 nominees from around the nation after rigorous evaluation and judging conducted by distinguished scientists, engineers and educators. The nominees for the national science competition are comprised of middle school students who were in the top 10% of their respective state science fairs. Daniel won his nomination to participate in the Broadcom MASTERS by placing 2nd in the Los Angeles County Science Fair this past March. Daniel’s project, which involves a unique air tubing apparatus redirecting forced air from an outdoor air conditioning unit to solar panels, proved to decrease the temperature of the panels, significantly increasing electric output. Daniel has gone on to obtain a provisional patent with the United States Patent Office for his invention. The 30 finalists for the Broadcom National MASTERS Competition will be named at the end of August. The finalists will be flown to Washington DC for an all-expense paid, 3-day trip where they will present their projects to the distinguished judges. The winner will receive a prize of $25,000. asbarez
