❤️❤️❤️ Originally inspired by an image of Audrey Hepburn found in an old 1950’s movie annual, the kitsch quality of the painting is further enhanced by the inclusion of the poodle which is given equal prominence on the canvas. Audrey has the typical pin-up pose of staring straight out at the viewer, head tilted coquettishly, but one may judge her as a person of having somewhat more wholesome qualities. In an ironic statement on the notion of ‘celebrity’ Julia appeared alongside her painting in a copy of Hello Magazine after the actress had died. The painting was subsequently loaned to UNICEF, the charity of which Audrey Hepburn had become a Goodwill Ambassador. This in turn sparked the idea for the ’Audrey Hepburn Memorabilia Exhibition’ at the Studio Gallery, London, opened by the new Ambassador, Nana Mouskouri. A few years later, ‘Audrey’ featured in the ‘Pin – Up’ exhibition at Tate Liverpool as part of a collection made up by selected members of the public who were asked to contribute images or ephemera of their idol/hero alongside represented artists such as Andy Warhol, Peter Blake and Linda McCartney. The concept of this exhibition was to show the changing face of fame, from Pop Art to the present.
